Solution to the problem that the head heating of UV flatbed printer does not heat up

Solutions for UV Flatbed Printer Printhead Heating Failure

If the printhead of a UV flatbed printer fails to heat up, it will directly affect the proper ink flow of UV ink, causing interruptions in ink output during printing. This issue is more common in winter when ambient temperatures are low, as UV ink becomes less fluid compared to summer. In such cases, not only do the printhead and UV ink require heating, but the external working environment must also be maintained at a suitable temperature.

The recommended operating environment for UV flatbed printers is 20°C–30°C with humidity levels between 30%–60%.

Printhead heating failure is generally caused by six main factors, and in most cases, they are easy to fix.

1. Heating Pad Aging

This is a normal occurrence. After prolonged use (around six months or more), the printhead heating pad may deteriorate. Simply replace it with a new heating pad.

2. Machine Not Reset

Reset the UV flatbed printer and restart it. This often allows the heating pad to resume heating.

3. Poor Heating Contact

Check if the connection between the heating pad and the printhead wiring is loose or broken. If so, reconnect it securely to restore normal operation.

4. Low Voltage in Heating Power Box

Open the UV printer’s power box cover and check the voltage reading. If the voltage is too low, inspect the voltage stabilizer to ensure it is functioning properly.

5. Poor Heat Transfer of the Heating Pad

Inspect the screws between the heating pad and the UV printhead. Loose screws can create gaps, reducing heat transfer. Also, remove any foreign objects from the contact surface, clean it thoroughly, and tighten the components.

6. Printhead Control Board Failure

If none of the above five issues are the cause, the printhead control board may be faulty. Contact the manufacturer and request a replacement printhead board.

Important Note:

During cold winter months, always preheat the UV ink, printhead, and other critical components before starting the printing process. If you are using an older machine without a built-in heating pad or circulation heating system, you can use an external heat source, such as a small portable heater. Place it approximately 20 cm away from the printhead and keep it running until the printer is ready.
